A work in progress

I'm plugging away at an Eastern and Oriental Catholicism Google map. You won't believe how many parishes, churches, monasteries, cemeteries, and schools we have out there! I haven't even made a dent in it yet! Please check the areas you're familiar with and add, remove, or update as needed.

There were some significant updates to the Maronite churches in the Middle East since I last looked. Thank you to the anonymous worker! Check it out!

  1. Hi Catherine,
I lived in Toronto, Canada for six years and currently reside in San Francisco Bay Area (near Berkeley, CA). I would like to help out the map project, could you tell me how? Thanks!

  2. Awesome! Google maps says that anyone may edit the map. It unfortunately is not very forthcoming on how one would go about doing so. It appears that one must be logged in to a Google account. At that point, one would apparently click one of two things (which of the two, I'm not clear.) The tiny edit button should either appear in the sidebar on the left at that point or if it doesn't then one would then choose My Maps at which point the edit button should appear.

If that doesn't work, let me know and I can see how else to go about it.

  3. I was able to able to access the map, but I have a small problem. I'm not sure how to drop the pin at the exact location of the church. If I search for the address of a parish, then there's no pin to drop. If I can somehow get around this problem, I can drop quite a few pins on the map. :-)

  4. Here's how I get it to work, which should work by address or by name. Open the map and click to edit it. Do a search (Melkite or 123 Main Street or whatever). When the results come up, there is a pin next to each result. In the bottom of the sidebar, make sure the Eastern and Oriental Catholicism map is selected as well as the current search terms. Click the pin in the sidebar and it will take you to the pin on the map. Click the pin on the map and a box shows up. Click "Save to..." and then the box expands to give options. Save it to the Eastern and Oriental Catholicism map. Let me know if that works for you.
